Is Shorcontrol a Solas registered training company?
Yes, Shorcontrol Safety is a registered Solas registered training company.

Are any of your courses accredited by external bodies?

What time does training begin?
Below is a list of courses and the required start times:

8.00am start – Solas Safe Pass

8.30am start – Confined Space, CSCS Plant Training, CSCS Location of Underground Services, CSCS Signing, Lighting and Guarding, CSCS Basic and Advanced Scaffolding and CSCS Mobile Tower Training.

9am start – Manual Handling, Fire Warden, Fire Safety, Chemical Handling, Working at Heights, Occupational First Aid, IOSH Managing and Working Safely, Forklift, Mobile Elevated Working Platform, Scaffold Inspection, Abrasive Wheels, RoSPA Abrasive Wheels Instructor and IOA Training.

What happens if I am late?
Where possible, we will attempt to accommodate all delegates whom arrive late, however the instructor on the programme makes the final decision. We generally allow approximately 15 minutes after the designated start time for registration and tea coffee etc. Safe Pass must commence at 8.00am and all delegates must be present.

Can training courses be held on site?
Yes, the majority of programmes can be held on site. Shorcontrol Safety will provide all course materials for on-site training. Equipment will also be provided on all programmes with the exception of plant training.

Are there booking conditions I need to be aware of?
Payment Policy: Payment must be received in advance of all training.

Cancellation Policy: In the event of cancellation – 100% of the course fee will be charged if less then fourteen days notice of cancellation is given. Notice of all cancellations must be given in writing and faxed to 045 899836

How do I know my booking is okay?
After booking a place on a course you will receive a booking form. To guarantee your place on the course, you must have this form signed and returned with a Purchase Order if applicable. All delegates will receive a call from our team to remind them of training prior to commencement.

What methods of payment do you accept?
At present we accept the following methods of payment:

• Cash
• Credit Cards
• Cheques
• Postal Orders
• Bank Transfers

We would ask that companies paying by these methods would ensure that they attach a note of their company name, the course they are attending and the dates which they are booking. Alternatively we can organise for a company account to be set up.

Can I make a provisional booking?
Unfortunately we do not take provisional bookings; places are allocated on a first come first served basis and are only guaranteed once your signed booking form has been received.

Is Lunch provided?
Lunch is provided on all full day programmes held at our premises in Naas Co Kildare. Lunch is not provided on programmes which are held at the customers office location or site.

Is there Public Transport to the Centre?
Train: Naas is served by the Sallins Train Station, approx a 25 minute walk to our training centre. The Arrow Train Services departs from Heuston Station, Dublin. The Arrow also departs from Portlaoise going in the Kildare Direction. Please see Iarnrod Eireann for timetable information.

Bus: Bus Eireann have a public Bus Service which stops directly outside the entrance to the Naas Industrial Estate from both Dublin and Kildare Directions. Please contact Bus Eireann for details.

Is parking available?
Limited parking is available at our premises in Naas Industrial Estate.

What is the Dress Code?
Delegates are advised to wear casual, comfortable clothes. For courses where there are practical elements such as Confined Space programmes we advised delegates to bring overalls or wear old clothes. Below is a list of appropriate PPE.

• Wet Gear if applicable

Can Shorcontrol cope with delegates with literacy difficulties?
Shorcontrol Safety will endeavour to assist all candidates with literacy difficulties. However, on certain courses such as Signing, Lighting and Guarding Training this is not possible as there are a series of written exams which are not multiple-choice.

Can Students with English language difficulties be accommodated?
Yes. Candidates with English language difficulties can be accommodated with the help of interpreters.

What material is provided with the courses?
All the courses are self-contained and attendees will be provided with a copy of the presentations, relevant standards / guides, note paper and pen.

Are there any pre-course requirements?
There are some pre course requirements on certain programmes;

RoSPA Abrasive Wheels Instructors
Candidates must have completed a standard ‘Abrasive Wheels Setters Course’ prior to attending Instructor Training Programme.

CSCS Plant Programme
On all CSCS Plant Programmes there are a number of application forms which must be completed in full, prior to training taking place. Delegates must bring the completed forms on the day of training to permit them to attend the course.

Are there guidelines on picking suitable participants?
We would advise that all candidates have knowledge and experience of the programme they wish to undertake. If you would like further help, Shorcontrol can provide an assessment of staff training needs and suggest the appropriate course relevant to your workplace environment.

Is there an age limit on training programmes?
There are age limits on certain programmes as follows:

Solas Safe Pass: Minimum age limit is 16 years old.

The following course all have a minimum age limit of 18 years old.
• CSCS Plant Training
• Confined Space Training
• CSCS Signing, Lighting and Guarding
• CSCS Location of Underground Services

What happens if someone fails? Can they repeat?
On the majority of courses it is possible for delegates to repeat the programmes or the part of the programme which they have referred on. Should a delegate refer on a programme they will be briefed on the best course of action to take with regards to repeating the course?

Are certificates given to participants or sent to the company?
Certificates are issued to the company that has booked the training on receipt of payment. 

Delegates are also advised to bring two passport photographs where accreditation cards are to be issued after training is complete.

Do Shorcontrol issue replacement certificates?
Shorcontrol Safety do re-issue replacement in-house certificates. CSCS replacements can be organised through Solas.
