NAAS, IRELAND, (18th March, 2009) – Shorcontrol Safety, a leading safety company for Training, Equipment and Consultancy is proud to announce a new course for Health & Safety at Roadworks enabling companies to comply with changes in legislation, 'Amendment No. 2 to Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2006'.

CSCS Health & Safety at Roadworks
Shorcontrol Safety delivers the 1 day course on Health & Safety at Roadworks. This will provide all attendees with a CSCS (Construction Sector Certification Scheme) FETAC Level 5 certification and identity card.

Minister Billy Kelleher
The minister has signed amendment No. 2 to the 2006 Construction Regulations – its designation will be SI 428 of 2008.

In short the following are the effect of the amendments;

1. Amendment refers to Regulation 97 - Roadworks

2. Definitions clarified with regard to “road” and “roadway” - the requirements of Regulation 97 “kick in” if you are working on the “roadway” – i.e. between the kerbs / interfering with traffic or directing pedestrians into traffic.

3. A new, 1 day Safety at Roadworks Course is introduced  - aimed at operatives and this person will have to be on site at all times when work is progressing

4. The works must be supervised by a person with a 3 day CSCS Card (Signing, Lighting and Guarding) – this person must be on site when traffic management is being installed, altered or removed – he does not have to be on site at all times but should be available to assist the 1 day card holder.

5. The date for compliance (July 6th. 2009) remains unchanged.

How to comply
Shorcontrol Safety delivers a 1 day course on Health & Safety at Roadworks. This will provide all attendees with a CSCS (Construction Sector Certification Scheme) FETAC Level 5 certification and identity card.

This programme is designed for operatives who are required to work in the proximity of roadworks, in both rural and urban situations, so as to understand the risks to their own safety from passing traffic and the need to avoid creating dangers for road users. This training is mandatory under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2006.

Candidates who successfully complete this course will be trained and motivated to work safely at roadworks and to minimise traffic disruption to road users.
